Sri Lanka, July 31 -- The Wilpattu National Park has turned into a parched up region owing to the prevailing drought with all water resources running dry.

The Department of Wildlife has taken steps to fill the concrete ponds with water transported by bowsers to provide water for the wild animals.

Park Warden R.D.D.D Samaranayake said the main source of water in the park including Maradankaduwa, Parcibendiwewa and Kukulkatuwa tanks in the Eastern Zone of the national park had run dry without a drop of water for the animals to drink.

He said steps are being taken to pump water from bowsers into the ponds as a temporary measure to quench their thirst.
