Sri Lanka, Nov. 4 -- The government is considering whether to permit high-powered motorcycles with engine capacities exceeding 1,000cc for special purposes, including sports activities, Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena informed Parliament today.

The Deputy Minister said a committee has been appointed to examine the matter and that a final decision will be made based on its recommendations.

He made these remarks while responding to a question raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Suranga Rathnayaka, who inquired whether the Ministry of Transport was considering removing existing legal restrictions on motorcycles exceeding 1,000cc.
