Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- The Sri Lanka Police have launched a special WhatsApp video service to enable members of the hearing-impaired community to lodge emergency complaints with the Police Emergency Call Unit 119.

The new service was introduced as part of programmes marking the 160th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police on September 3, 2026, under the patronage of the President. It will officially commence operations on September 10.

Until a dedicated short-code number is introduced, users can access the service by saving 011 280 9980 to their mobile phone contacts and making an initial audio call through WhatsApp.
