What Sri Lanka's executioners do when no execution is scheduled
Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- Sri Lanka currently has two members serving as executioners. However, the executioners do not remain on standby solely for capital punishment duties. They are regular employees of the Prisons Department, carrying out other assigned duties and receiving standard government salaries until they are called upon for an execution.
When an execution date is officially determined, the executioners report to the prison on the previous day and begin preparations. These include inspecting the gallows and execution equipment and ensuring that all arrangements are in working order.
