What happened to safe working environments?
Sri Lanka, June 4 -- At least 22 female employees were hospitalised on Wednesday (3) morning following a fire that broke out at a garment factory in the Embilipitiya area. According to the police, the fire originated inside a warehouse of the textile factory located near the Sudupalama area along the Embilipitiya-Nonagama road. This raises concerns regarding the safety of these working environments. Even though many establishments comply with safety standards in writing, they don't really seem to comply from a practical point of view. Who is responsible for the lives of victims? Is there a national body investigating into these incidents other than the fire brigade?
