Tusker 'Mahasen' goes missing, Sajith tells Parliament
Sri Lanka, Oct. 22 -- Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today informed Parliament that 'Mahasen', believed to be the tusker with the largest tusks in Sri Lanka, has gone missing.
He said the tusker had been roaming the Maradankadawala area and occasionally moving to other locations, including Ritigala, Kantale, Kaudulla, Minneriya and Somawathiya.
Premadasa expressed concern over the tusker's disappearance, noting that 'Mahasen' was believed to have larger tusks than the late tusker 'Kawanthissa'.
The Opposition Leader urged the Government to introduce a comprehensive programme to protect tuskers, with the assistance of the Civil Defence Force, the Special Task Force (STF) and the armed forces.
