Sri Lanka, July 11 -- A train was operated from Peradeniya Junction Railway Station to Kadugannawa today (11) for the first time since rail operations were disrupted by Cyclone Ditwah.

The train, comprising a locomotive and two break vans that had been transported by road from Kandy Railway Station last week had successfully completed the journey to Kadugannawa.

Railway authorities said the train will be used to transport raw materials, machinery and railway personnel required for the repair of tracks damaged by the cyclone.

The operation marks a significant step in restoring railway infrastructure and services affected by the adverse weather conditions.
