Thennekumbura traders protest against govt., allege JVP supporters favored
Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- Traders in Thennekumbura, Kandy, expressed displeasure with the government following the removal of roadside stalls under a court order, alleging that supporters of the governing JVP were given preferential treatment during the clearance operation.
A tense situation was reported today (09) in the Thennekumbura area, within the Gangawata Korale Pradeshiya Sabha limits, as authorities moved to clear several commercial stalls located on the Mahaweli River reservation under the court order.
