Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- The brutal assault and abandonment of a four-year-old girl in Wattegama by her mother last week is part of a broader, recurring pattern of abuse rather than an isolated incident.
According to reports, the mother of the child along with her paramour had brutally assaulted the girl at home, inflicted her with burn injuries with a lighter, and subjected her to repeated cruelty before abandoning her on a side road in Wattegama.
