Srilanka, March 29 -- A Technical Officer attached to the Welisara Sub-Office of the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested by officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on charges of soliciting and accepting a bribe.
The arrest took place during a raid following a formal complaint lodged by a resident of the Ragama area.
The suspect allegedly demanded a sum of Rs. 50,000 in exchange for a professional favor.
According to investigators, the bribe was intended to secure the approval of a building plan despite several existing shortcomings in the proposal. The officer reportedly promised to overlook these deficiencies and facilitate the process, bypassing standard regulatory requirements....
