Sri Lanka, March 31 -- Police have taken a suspect into custody in connection with the murder of a gem businessman in Kahawatta.

The arrest was made by officers of the Delwala Police, who apprehended the suspect while he was hiding in a forested area in Kahawatta.

According to police, the operation was carried out following an extensive search conducted by several special teams deployed to investigate the incident.

The suspect is reported to be a resident of Kahawatta Kanda.

Investigations were launched after a complaint was lodged on March 29, stating that a 61-year-old gem businessman from Kahawatta had gone missing.
