Sri Lanka, Sept. 22 -- Speaker Jagath Wickramarathne informed Parliament today that the Supreme Court has determined that Clause 17 of the "Anti-Corruption (Amendment)" Bill is inconsistent with Article 4(c) of the Constitution and is required to be passed with the Special Majority required under Article 84(2) and approved by the People at a referendum in terms of Article 83 of the Constitution.

The Speaker also announced the Court's determinations on several other provisions of the Bill.

Clauses 3, 4, 6(4), and 6(5) are not inconsistent with the Constitution and may therefore be passed by a Simple Majority in Parliament.
