Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- Sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds of up to 50-60 kmph, the Meteorological Department warned.

The department said wave heights could increase to around 2.5-3.0 metres in sea areas extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara.

It also warned that near-shore areas could experience seawater inundation due to the increased wave activity.

As such, naval personnel and fishing communities in the affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
