Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning of strong winds and rough seas in several sea areas around Sri Lanka.

According to the advisory, winds are expected to reach 50-60 km/h at times in the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai through Mannar to Kalpitiya, and from Matara through Hambantota to Pottuvil.

Meanwhile, wave heights of 2.5-3.0 metres are possible in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara.

The Meteorology Department has also warned that sea waves may reach coastal areas.

The fishing and maritime communities have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions due to the prevailing conditions.
