Sri Lanka, July 31 -- Sri Lanka is beginning to face shortage of vegetables with the dry spell that is prevailing, traders said yesterday.

President Dambulla Economic Centre Traders Association C. A. Siriwardene told media that the supply of vegetables in the economic centre has been reduced by 200,00kgs of vegetables daily. The daily supply has reduced from 600,000 kgs to 400,000 kgs during the last few days. He said the dry spell and non-availability of fertilizer have resulted in this situation.

The wholesale price of capsicum ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 550 a kilo, while the price of carrot ranges from Rs 230 to R 250. A kilo of brinjal is Rs 350, price of drumsticks ranges from Rs 150 to Rs 200 and pumpkin R 115 a kilo.
