Sri Lanka Embassy in Doha recovers over Rs. 80 million in compensation
Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- The Sri Lanka Embassy in Doha has recovered compensation amounting to more than Rs. 80.8 million on behalf of the next of kin (NoK) of Sri Lankan nationals who died in Qatar during the first seven months of 2026.
The Embassy recovered a total of SLR 80,886,895.32 in death compensation between January and July, despite challenges arising from the tense regional situation.
Of the total amount, SLR 13,229,128 was paid directly to the respective next of kin through the Embassy's efforts, while SLR 67,657,767.32 was recovered and transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism for disbursement to the relevant beneficiaries.
