Sri Lanka, March 31 -- The Sri Lanka Coast Guard successfully rescued 18 local and foreign tourists from drowning during lifesaving operations carried out across several coastal areas in March 2026.
The Coast Guard operates 17 lifesaving posts along key tourist beaches around the country.
During March, Coast Guard lifesavers rescued 14 foreign nationals and four local tourists from drowning. Those rescued included male and female tourists aged between two and 46 years from Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Russia and Turkiye.
Since its establishment in 2010, Coast Guard lifesavers have rescued 2,610 people, including 1,207 foreign nationals, as of March 31, 2026.
