Spotlight on Nuwara Eliya: Roaming ponies on the road give drivers the jitters
Sri Lanka, Sept. 17 -- The individuals who provide pony rides to tourists and make money, particularly during holidays when the tourist arrivals increase, let loose these animals when tourists are not available, much to the inconvenience of the public. This news comes from Nuwara Eliya, a heaven for both local and foreign tourists.
Environmentalists and animal lovers complain that these actions result in cruelty to animals as well. They pointed out that the stray ponies are often subject to beating when roamed into home gardens.
