Sri Lanka, Nov. 7 -- A specialist surgeon attached to the Polonnaruwa Hospital was killed when the car he was driving collided with a tipper truck in Minneriya on Friday (06).

The accident took place in the evening near the 39th kilometre post on the Polonnaruwa-Habarana Road, Police said.

The car was travelling from Minneriya towards Habarana when it collided with the tipper truck coming from the opposite direction.

Both drivers were injured in the accident and admitted to the Habarana Hospital. However, the 50-year-old surgeon was pronounced dead upon admission.

The deceased was a resident of New Town, Polonnaruwa.

The tipper truck driver was subsequently transferred to the Polonnaruwa Hospital for further treatment.
