Sri Lanka, June 30 -- A sniper rifle and ammunition have been recovered during a special operation conducted by officers attached to the Thirukkovil Police Special Task Force (STF) camp.

The recovery was made in the Kanchikudicharu area of the Bakmitiyawa forest reserve in Damana.

Acting on information received, an STF team discovered the sniper rifle concealed inside a hollow tree trunk. Along with the firearm, officers recovered an ammunition magazine and seven rounds of live ammunition.

The recovered weapon and ammunition were handed over to the Damana Police Station for further investigations.
