Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- Attributing Sri Lanka's crippling court delays solely to judicial incompetence or absenteeism fundamentally misdiagnoses a systemic crisis. Rather than judicial failure, the backlog stems from a lack of organizational management, severe prosecutorial delays, and institutional neglect across the justice apparatus. Attempting to pass targeted constitutional amendments-such as selectively raising the retirement age of judges-exposes political motives rather than genuine reform. Fixing this broken apparatus requires transparent collaboration between the government, the legal profession, and civil society.
