SriLanka, Sept. 21 -- The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has appointed Habeeb Rifan, a lawyer from Oddamavadi, Batticaloa, as a National List MP for a period of one year.

The selection was made in keeping with the principle of rotation, with this turn moving out of the Ampara District, which was represented in the previous rotation, according to party secretary Nizam Kariapper.

Rifan's willingness to contest the recent Local Government Elections at the party's request was an important consideration. The absence of parliamentary representation for the Kalkudah Electorate was also among the factors considered by the party leadership, Kariapper said in a post on X.
