Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- Men account for the majority of reported early syphilis cases in Sri Lanka, with cases among men significantly outnumbering those among women, according to data from the National STD/AIDS Control Programme.

In 2025, 508 early syphilis cases were reported among men, compared to 175 cases among women.

This represents a sharp increase compared to 2019, when 89 cases were recorded among men and 31 among women.

The figures show that reported cases among men increased by 471% between 2019 and 2025, while cases among women rose by 465% during the same period.

Accordingly, early syphilis cases among men were nearly three times higher than those among women in 2025.
