Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- The Meteorology Department has issued a warning that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the North Central, North Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces, as well as in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Mannar districts.

The department said temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers and urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimise damage and ensure safety.

People have been advised to seek shelter indoors and avoid standing under trees during thunderstorms. The public is also requested to avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and water bodies.
