Sri Lanka, April 17 -- The Meteorology Department has issued a warning that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely at several places in the Southern Province as well as in Colombo, Kalutara, Monaragala, and Ratnapura districts after 1.00 p.m. today.

The Met Department further said that temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers.

The public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage and risks associated with lightning activity.

Safety Guidelines Issued by the Department of Meteorology:

Seek shelter, preferably indoors, and avoid taking refuge under trees.

Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
