Second shipping container washes ashore on Southern coast
Sri Lanka, Aug. 3 -- A shipping container washed ashore near Owakanda Junction in the Rathgama Police Division this morning (03), police said.
According to Police, the container is approximately 40 feet long and white in colour. They suspect it is one of the containers that fell overboard from a cargo vessel.
The discovery comes a day after another white shipping container was found washed ashore behind a tourist hotel in Induruwa on August 2.
Police believe the containers are among those that fell into the sea from a vessel off the coast near Colombo on the previous day. Further investigations are underway to confirm their origin and assess any potential hazards.
