Sri Lanka, Sept. 22 -- Road Development Authority (RDA) Director General Anuradha Hettiarachchi said yesterday that casualties from road accidents on expressways have declined following the introduction of mandatory seat-belt regulations for all passengers.

He told the media that the number of casualties in yesterday's multiple-vehicle accident on the Southern Expressway was limited because passengers were wearing seat belts.

Hettiarachchi said accidents on expressways have increased in recent days due to rainy weather and urged motorists to exercise greater caution when driving under wet conditions.
