Seat belt law comes into force across Sri Lanka from today
SriLanka, June 20 -- The National Council for Road Safety announced that the mandatory enforcement of Sri Lanka's seat belt law comes into effect from today (20), following the conclusion of the grace period granted for motorists.
Accordingly, wearing seat belts is now compulsory while driving.
In addition, all passengers travelling in vehicles on expressways are required to wear seat belts.
The government has also taken steps to make seat belt use mandatory for passengers travelling in both the front and rear seats of vehicles.
The grace period provided to facilitate the implementation of the new regulation ended yesterday (19), and authorities said the law will now be strictly enforced.
