SC rules police promotion lawful
Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- The Supreme Court, after hearing 71 petitions filed by police officers alleging an infringement of their fundamental rights by the Police Commission, has ruled that the promotion of a police Sergeant to the rank of Sub-Inspector was lawful and carried out in accordance with the prescribed promotion procedure.
The petitioners had alleged that the promotion granted to the 11th respondent, M.L.D.W.K. Jayasekera, to the rank of Sub-Inspector, had infringed their fundamental rights.
