Sri Lanka, July 17 -- Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya today said that protecting and saving the lives of street animals is a shared responsibility, urging the public to stop abandoning pets in public places and to show greater compassion towards stray animals.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the opening of PET EXPO 2026 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), the Prime Minister said that while keeping pets is an important part of society, caring for animals living on the streets is equally important.
