Sri Lanka, Sept. 25 -- The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested Chinari Lakmanthi Hettiarachchi, the wife of former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena, over an alleged attempt to influence ongoing court proceedings involving her husband.

According to CIABOC, Hettiarachchi allegedly offered a Rs. 50,000 bribe to an office assistant attached to Colombo High Court No. 11.

The alleged bribe was offered in an attempt to influence the proceedings in a case currently being heard against the former Deputy Minister and to secure a suspended prison sentence, according to the allegations.

She is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
