Sri Lanka, Nov. 3 -- The Cabinet has approved a Rs. 1,318.3 million contract to widen and upgrade a three-kilometre section of the Kandy-Jaffna Road passing through Vavuniya town.

The contract has been awarded to M/s Karnwel Constructions & Civil Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, which emerged as the lowest responsive bidder.

The project covers the section from kilometre 176+000 to kilometre 179+000 of the road.

Seven bids were received under the National Competitive Procurement Procedure, and the contract was awarded following an evaluation of the bids.

The Acting Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development submitted the proposal for Cabinet approval.

The contract is valued at Rs. 1,318.3 million, excluding VAT.
