Sri Lanka, Feb. 26 -- Health authorities have raised concerns over a growing number of colorectal cancer cases reported among Sri Lankans aged between 30 and 50, contributing to nearly 3,000 cases recorded in the country during 2022.
Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Senaka Thalagala said colorectal cancer is now the second most common cancer among men and the third among women in Sri Lanka.
According to 2022 global cancer data from the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.9 million new cases of colorectal cancer were reported worldwide, making it the second most common cancer globally, with 900,000 related deaths. Lung cancer ranked first.
