Sri Lanka, March 5 -- A retired Chief Clerk of the Ministry of Health has been arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20 million.
The arrest was made by investigating officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption yesterday at the Ministry of Health canteen.
According to officials, the suspect had allegedly requested and received the money through cheques on seven occasions following the leasing of a building by the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine from a private institution in 2018. The payments were allegedly solicited in return for promising to issue the relevant rent cheques without delay.
