Sri Lanka, April 24 -- The news which is being circulated with the headline Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malclom Ranjith is to resign, is fake, spokesman for the Sri Lankan Catholic Church Fr. Jude Krishantha said today.

"Decisions pertaining to Archbishops are made by the Vatican. Though the procedure of the Catholic Church is that a Cardinal has to retire when he reaches the age of 80, the final decision is made by the Pope," Fr Krishantha said.

"Though Cardinal Ranjith will reach 80 next year, no official decision has been made on his retirement," he added.
