Sri Lanka, April 10 -- The United National Party (UNP) said that its leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe had to be taken to Singapore for medical treatment because the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was on a witch-hunt against Sri Lankan doctors who treated him.

Addressing a media conference, UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardana said the country is in a dire predicament today because the government came to power by spreading falsehoods. He said the current government had lied to the general public more than any other party.

He said it is vital for political parties not to propagate falsehoods for political gain in the future.
