Sri Lanka, April 24 -- Clearing work has begun on the Sagarika train that derailed earlier this morning on the coastal railway line.
Railway authorities said one of the two tracks has been severely damaged due to the derailment, causing major disruption to train services along the route.
At present, trains from Colombo are operating only up to Panadura Railway Station. From there, passengers are being transported by Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses to South Kalutara.
Services are also running from South Kalutara towards Matara and Beliatta on the southern section of the line.
The Railway Department said efforts are underway to remove the obstruction and restore at least one track for train operations by this evening.
