Srilanka, Aug. 16 -- Public approval of the government has declined to 50% as perceptions of Sri Lanka's economic outlook have weakened, according to the latest 'Mood of the Nation' poll conducted by Verite Research.

The July 2026 poll found that government approval had fallen from 65% in February, which was a post-election high.

Perceptions of the economic outlook also deteriorated sharply. The proportion of respondents who said economic conditions were "getting better" fell to 41.63% from 64% in the previous round, while those who believed conditions were "getting worse" rose to 40.29%, from around 15%.

Meanwhile, 31.40% said they disapproved of the way the current government was working, compared to around 15% previously.
