SriLanka, Oct. 7 -- A peaceful protest is scheduled to be held at the Colombo Courts premises at 9 a.m. today (7), opposing the Prisons Department's decision to remove the robes of Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera when he was produced before court.

Prison Commissioner and Media Spokesman Senaka Pallethenna also said prison regulations require inmates sentenced to rigorous imprisonment to wear prison-issued clothing. He said the regulations governing monks in prison and the clothing worn when prisoners are produced before court were being followed.

The controversy follows the enforcement of the remaining period of Gnanasara Thera's six-year prison sentence for contempt of court.
