Sri Lanka, Oct. 17 -- The Railways Department has warned that electrically operated railway crossings and warning systems could malfunction following a nationwide power failure reported this morning (17).

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings amid the disruption to electricity supplies.

The warning comes as a technical failure in the national electricity grid has disrupted power supplies across the country, with restoration work being carried out in stages.
