SriLanka, May 30 -- Electricity supply was temporarily disconnected in nearly 100 areas, including parts of Colombo, due to an imbalance in the national power grid, Power and Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka said.

The Minister explained that the measure was taken to ensure the stability of the electricity system after power generation exceeded demand as a result of higher-than-anticipated solar power generation.

He noted that recent rainy weather conditions had led authorities to expect lower levels of solar generation. However, clear skies and strong sunlight today resulted in a significant amount of electricity being generated through rooftop solar systems and fed into the national grid.
