Sri Lanka, June 24 -- An appeal has been made to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV seeking humanitarian intervention regarding the detention of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay, who is currently being held under the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

As part of the initiative, a letter addressed to the Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka, the Vatican's diplomatic representative in the country, was formally handed over on Tuesday morning by the relatives of Mr. Sallay.

Accordingly, they are requesting the Pope's assistance and moral intervention in light of Sallay's current circumstances while in detention.
