SriLanka, Aug. 22 -- Polonnaruwa recorded the highest temperature in Sri Lanka at 37.2C today (22), according to temperature data released by the Department of Meteorology.

Several areas in the dry zone and eastern regions also experienced high temperatures. Mullaitivu and Monaragala recorded 36.7C, while Pottuvil reached 36.1C. Trincomalee and Matale recorded temperatures of 36.0C.

Other temperatures recorded across the country included 35.7C in Vavuniya, 33.7C in Anuradhapura, 33.0C in Jaffna, 31.4C in Colombo and 29.6C in Galle.

Meanwhile, Nuwara Eliya recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 19.7C. Bandarawela recorded 28.8C, while Katugastota recorded 29.0C.
