Sri Lanka, April 14 -- Sri Lanka Police have issued a strong warning to motorists to avoid drunk and reckless driving during the ongoing festive season.
According to the latest data, the first four months of 2026 have been particularly deadly on the roads. Since January 1, a total of 713 people have died in motor vehicle accidents.
Police Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler said that 248 of the victims were motorcyclists.
In response to the increase in accidents, police have stepped up enforcement on major roads.
