Police issue strict warning over loudspeaker noise
Sri Lanka, Aug. 30 -- Police have issued strict guidelines on the use of loudspeakers, amplifiers and sound systems, warning that legal action will be taken against those who create excessive noise and disturb the public.
Police said excessive noise is no longer merely a public nuisance but can pose serious health and psychological risks, particularly to infants, schoolchildren, elderly people and patients in hospitals.
Police cited Supreme Court Case Order No. 38/2005, under which causing disturbance or inconvenience to neighbours and the general public through amplified sound can constitute a public nuisance punishable under Section 261 of the Penal Code.
