Parliament pays tribute to late singer Nanda Malini
Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- Parliament today paid tribute to late veteran singer Nanda Malini, recalling her immense contribution to Sri Lankan music and society.
Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said the late singer was close to the hearts of all Sri Lankans and that her artistic works reflected the lives and experiences of the Sri Lankan people.
"Her voice was the voice of Sri Lankan society," the Prime Minister said.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said he had known Nanda Malini since his childhood and recalled her strong connection with the people.
"She stood with the people. She never deviated from her political stand," he said.
Parliament also observed a two-minute silence in her memory as a mark of respect.
