Over 200,000 disputes referred to Mediation Boards annually
Sri Lanka, Aug. 14 -- More than 200,000 disputes are referred to mediation boards across Sri Lanka each year, the Ministry of Justice and National Integration said.
Addressing the 36th National Mediation Day celebration at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo, Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara, said the increasing number of cases and resulting delays have become a major challenge for the judicial system.
He said that mediation has helped resolve around 200,000 disputes, preventing further pressure on the courts and reducing the potential backlog of cases.
