Srilanka, Sept. 6 -- More than 2,000 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from an abandoned well in the Anthonypuram area of Palaly, Jaffna, police said.

The ammunition was discovered when a group of people cleaning the old well found the items submerged in the water. They subsequently informed the police, who arrived at the location and inspected the site.

According to police, around 2,200 rounds of various types of ammunition were recovered from the well.

Police suspect that the ammunition may have been placed in the well during the country's wartime period, possibly with the intention of recovering it at a later stage.
