Sri Lanka, April 7 -- The Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha, which is under the control of the National People's Power (NPP), was arrested this morning (April 7) by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations of corruption.
The arrest was made following an investigation into claims that the Chairman had unlawfully approved a building plan on state-owned land.
According to investigators, the approval had been granted in violation of established legal procedures, including provisions of the Urban Development Authority Act No. 41 of 1978. The incident relates to a plot of state land in the Magoda Grama Niladhari Division in Nuwara Eliya.
