Sri Lanka, Oct. 29 -- The 2027 budget of the Medagama Pradeshiya Sabha, controlled by the National People's Power (NPP), was defeated by one vote today.

The council met in the morning under the chairmanship of Ajith Priyantha Ratnayaka, who presented the budget proposals for debate.

When the vote was taken, eight members voted in favour of the budget, while nine voted against it.

The nine members of the joint opposition, representing the United National Party (UNP), Sarvajana Balaya, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Podujana Eksath Peramuna and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), voted against the proposals, defeating the budget by one vote.
